China Glaze Emerald Sparkle

China Glaze Emerald Sparkle
China Glaze Emerald Sparkle 2
China Glaze Emerald Sparkle
This polish has been around for quite sometime but as I don't/didn't really have a place to get China Glazes I've not had the chance to pick it up. I found a salon that had a bunch of polishes in a bin so I went through and found this along with these others: OPI Sapphire in the Snow, CG Gussied Up Green, CG Rodeo Fanatic, CG DV8, CG 2NITE, CG LOL, CG GR8.
I was so excited to see these in the wild! Anyway Emerald Sparkle is perfection! Its a fantastic emerald colour and this is two easy and lovely coats. It's just like China Glaze Ruby Pumps, only green. I hope one day that I can collect a rainbow of similar colours. I have red, green and blue so far. I'll be keeping my eyes peeled for more for sure.

OPI Louvre Me Louvre Me Not

OPI Louvre Me Louvre Me Not

Got this polish at Winners. The shimmer reminded me of Clarins 230 so I thought I'd try it. Turns out that the shimmer is very subtle and I'm not that into subtle shimmers... It looks like a dark plum cream in most light and you can't see the shimmer. It looks nicer in the pictures then in real life IMO. I think the purple looks kinda dated. It reminds me of the late 90s and not in a good way. I think I'll top it with Clarins 230 to try and save the effort but this one is not a favourite. There are not many polishes in my stash that I don't really love. I guess I'll try to swap this one.

Joe Fresh Ballet Slipper

So the Canucks lost the Stanley Cup to Boston last night. Disappointing. What is more disappointing is the riots/looting and distruction in Vancouver last night. Sadly, I highly doubt the outcome would have been much different had Vancouver won. I've seen the photos and the video and I can't believe that stuff actually happens! It makes me angry to see these people act so violently and feel so good about it. I wonder what makes these people tick? It is deeply sadening to me and I hope people don't think this is the way Canadians and Vancouverites normally behave. I am proud of the civilans that tried to stand up to the rioters. It's really scary to try and be the voice of reason in a sea of crazies.

Anywho, how about some pretty nail polish?!

Another Ballet Slipper! This one is singular though! Mmmm the colour is pretty much the same as Essie's. They are both very sheer. This is 3 coats. Not as opaque as Essie Ballet Slippers. I like Essie's formula better.

Joe Fresh Apple

I am so happy about this polish! This is the vibrant orangey-red I've been look for. It's soo in your face bold. I love it. It's says "I'm-so-cheap-but-in-a-hip-way" I bet the hipsters LOVE this colour too. Anyway, this was 2 easy coats. I call this a jelly because it's too shinny to be a straight cream. It's an opaque jelly, which is the best kind IMO! Also, I filed my nails back to a rounder shape. I can't fight it. It's just the way they want to be. Fashion be damned! What do you think of this red? How do you like it compared to Essie Meet me at Sunset?

Joe Fresh Hula

Now this is more like it! I love love love this colour. It so fresh and bright and happy. It reminds me of sticky, sweet, cotton candy. I love pinks that lean peachy but not too orange. Unfortunatly the formulation isn't that different from Joe Fresh Lagoon which is dissapointing. But I tried a little thinner and it helped a bit. The finish is a subtle pearl similar to Lagoon. I don't notice this finish as much on the nail as in the bottle which is a bit of a shame. All in all this is one of my new favourites! I dono, am I crazy to think it makes me look a little tanned?

Joe Fresh Mist

Another polish I just wanted to love but it turned out so fug. Blech frosty. I am not a fan. I'm not sure what I expected. I guess I was thinking that it would be a blue toned OPI Fireflies. It's far too white for my tastes. Lots of brush strokes. I don't know if others would dig this polish but it's so not my cup of tea. What do you all think? Would you wear this colour?

Joe Fresh Lagoon

Joe Fresh Lagoon

Joe Fresh Lagoon
This is a very pretty colour. I want so very much to love this polish but the formula is goop city. I guess I'm a little spoiled by all the fantastic formulations I've come across because every time I get a dud formulation I'm riddled with doubt. "Maybe I'm not applying it correctly, oh the brush is terrible, oh I'm rushing this, I put it on too thick, I put it on too thin." Bottom line, the formulation isn't right so the application doesn't come out right. I think a little thinner may help this polish, but I didn't have the time to fiddle with it. This has a very subtle pearl shimmer that you can see much more in the bottle on the nail. It's nice. I have quite a number of minties. So here is how Lagoon stacks up against what I have. As you can see, she leans very much towards the blue end.

Minties
OPI Gragantuan Green Grape, China Glaze Re-fresh Mint, Essie Mint Candied Apple, Joe Fresh Lagoon, China Glaze For Audrey

Also, I wonder how many nail polishes are called Lagoon, or have Lagoon in the name. Quite a few I imagine.

Stay tuned for exciting events to come!

Hi all. I don't have a NOTD or review for you today! I know! No pictures?!?! I just wanted to let you know that Rikki Nails will be participating in a very special event with piCture pOlish. Theses are the ladies where I got my Ozotics and my piCture pOlish Denim. These gals make and sell some pretty awesome polishes! Right now they are taking entries to name their new Christmas in July collection. I love naming polishes! I had some cool names but they didn't follow their theme and I don't know if I have time to think up a bunch of new names. Anyways, I just wanted to give ya'll a heads up to keep your eyes peeled for fun stuff coming up! As a consolation prize for no NOTD here is a picture of my babies, all three of them.

The Triplets
Can you tell them apart?

Koh Black Stars

Koh Black Stars
Here is the other Koh polish I received in a fabulous swap. I didn't even bother to check the opacity on this polish. I bet you anything it would be crazy sheer so this is one coat over WnW Black Creme. In the photos it looks a lot more browny/olivey but it's mostly black in person. There is a lot going on in this polish. Like Whoa! There are (mostly) red flakies, holographic silver glitter and gold shimmer which is why I think it looks a little brown. This polish reminds me of galaxies which is probably why it is named Black Stars. I was thinking that it would also be cute to call it Kitchen Sink! :D This polish also came with a swank carrying case.

Ozotic Pro 621

Ozotic Pro 621
I got distracted by this holo. Isn't she purdy? The holographic particles are similar to the China Glaze Kalediscopes. It's not a super-crazy holo but the nail polish has a beautiful depth when on the nail. I immediately thought of China Glaze Ruby Pumps. They funny thing, my mother who is a muggle grabbed my hand and said, "This looks like Ruby Pumps. I thought Ruby Pumps was the prettiest polish. Now I'm not so sure!" 621 is a beautiful, classy polish. It's very glossy and the colour is a warm red. I was hoping for more holographic effect with this one but it has such a beautiful, twinkling fire instead, which is so captivating. This is a big win. I think my camera freaked out when taking this picture and I would say that the photos don't do this polish justice.

Comparison - Koh Blue Universe and OPI Merry Midnight

Flakie Compare
Koh Blue Universe - Index and Ring
OPI Merry Midnight - Middle and Pinkie
Here is the promised comparison. You will find that although the polishes have the same general idea they are VERY different. Apart from the obvious colour differences, Merry Midnight is a jelly base with red flakes with a very subtle duochrome effect and blue and purple glitter. Blue Universe is a metallic blue base that is much more opaque, with duochrome flakies and very fine silver micro glitter. They are much more different then I first thought. They are definitely a variation on a theme I would say. I prefer Blue Universe if anyone is keeping score.
