Joe Fresh Pineapple and a Comparison

Joe Fresh Pineapple
Joe Fresh Pineapple 2
Joe Fresh Pineapple

What a fun and fresh colour! This little baby has a VERY secret shimmer that I didn't notice at all until it was on the nail. I guess I'm attracted to this type of colour because I do have a very similar shade in OPI The "It" Color. OPI is a little more yellow and it doesn't have the shimmer.

The Joe Fresh polish was a huge pain in the butt but to be honest I don't know if it was just because I was being impatient. I always have so much more success when I really take my time and pay attention. The wheels always seem to fall off when I'm rushing and hoping my babies don't wake up in the middle of my mani! hahaha

Joe Fresh Iris and a Comparison

China Glaze Grape Pop - ring and index

Ooo pretty purple. I thought for sure I had a bunch of purple creams that would similar to Joe Fresh Iris. Turns out not so much. At first I thought OPI Done out in Deco but it's not close at all. DoiD is far to light and quite a bit less saturated. As, you can see I didn't even bother to compare them on the nail. The closest I have is China Glaze Grape Pop and it's not close either! I guess this goes to show I can acquire a lot more polishes without fear of ever duping! I have quite a few polishes but I can safely say I think I only own three dup-ish colours. Even with that they are all slightly different. I have a bunch of mints that are really close, Sally Hansen Laser and Orly Lunar Eclipse and surprisingly an new Joe Fresh yellow which I will show you tomorrow!

Joe Fresh Cobalt and Nicole by OPI Top of my World

I stopped by my Superstore to check out what they had in store for nail polish. They had a newly installed giant rack with rainbows and rainbows of polish. I love racks of polish organized by colour family. I have reoccurring dreams of colourful, plentifull racks, and they are all super cheap! Needless to say, I picked up a couple. I really like Joe Fresh polishes. They come in a cute little bottle, they aren't too expensive and they are only available in Canada. I guess it's maybe a little weird, but I like having special polishes that the US doesn't. Maybe it's because I feel overshadowed and jealous of the neigbours to the south, who seem to get all the good stuff! (no, I'm not bitter!) Anyway! :D Here is Cobalt.

Joe Fresh Cobalt

This is not the colour I think of when I hear cobalt. I think much deeper and darker. However, this polish is so pretty and saturated. I love me a vibrant, saturated hue.

I've been wanting to try out this glitter from Nicole. The glitter disappears a little on the blue because it is the same colour but that makes it a little more subtle. The glitter is lovely but it is so gloopy and the clear suspension polish is a bit murky which I don't like. I toped it with a top coat and that made it much more vibrant and shiny so it worked out well. Gotta say, I hate Nicole's bottle and brush! They are lucky they are making some killer shades or else I doubt they'd be getting any love from me.

Stylish Blogger Award

Wow I'm so pleased and flattered to receive this lovely award from Amy at Gotham Polish. She does the cutest little vignette cartoons with the bottles of polish. It's very unique and a fun spin on nail polish blogging! I'm also so jealous that she lives in New York! A big shout out to Amy! Thanks so much!

So as part of this award we must fulfill our stylish blogger duties which are as follows:

1. Thank and link back to the person who awarded you this award. (check)
2. Share 7 things about yourself.
3. Award 15 recently discovered great bloggers.
4. Contact these bloggers and tell them about the award

2. I'm a new mommy to identical twin girls and I can't wait until they get old enough for me to paint their nails.

5. I love candy - like a lot! Any kind, but especially fruit flavoured candy
6. I'm really tall. I'm 6'
7. My favourite show on television right now is Bob's Burgers. You gotta watch that show. It's hillarious! Plus the voice of the little girl Louise is the Mel from Flight of the Conchords (Kristen Schall) and THAT show is tragically off the air but still one of the most brilliant shows ever!

I'm not sure if these blogs are necessarily new but they are pretty new to me!

I think this is my favourite of the OMGs. It's a very pretty corn flower blue. The rainbow is very strong and linear. I took these pictures in the morning so I think the rainbow isn't as bright as if I had taken them in the afternoon light. I'm just thankful I could get some sun! The application was a bit of a pain. I think that may have been because I tried out a different base coat then what I usually use. I tried Poshe base coat. I only have it because I accidentally ordered it instead of the top coat! Anyway, it caused some balding. So I'll have to try it again with my regular base coat to see if it's the base coat or the actually polish. Ya likey?

Taking a brief break from all them holos. This is another Nicole by OPI collaboration with Justin Bieber. I've heard that this is an international exclusive, which I think means, ya'll in the US didn't get 'em. Pain in the butt for the US readers but I'm pretty happy that here in Canada we do get some special polishes. I really love these kinds of glass fleck duochrome kinda polishes. I understand that this polish is a lot like the new Zoya Sunshine polishes. Not that I would know because Zoya doesn't like to ship to Canada! (I'm not bitter or anything!) It's a pitty because I do like me a Zoya. If they shipped up here I would have a ton more of their polishes. As it is, I only have a handful. So this is a terrific polish. I think this was 3 coats, which is pretty standard for me. Super blingy. Love it. I have another one of this collection called Top of my World. It's a iridescent blue/teal/green glitter. So pretty. I need to swatch it on black for ya'll to see. Soon.

China Glaze Don't Be A Square

China Glaze Don't Be A Square
China Glaze Don't Be A Square 2
China Glaze Don't Be A Square
This pink reminds me of Barbie. It's a medium pink and she is in the middle of peach and purple. Can a pink be neutral? Haha. A neutral medium pink. Same standard formula as the rest of the Kaleidoscopes I've tried so far. I have to be honest. I am glad I have these pinks but really they don't light my fire like the greens, purples, or blues, even the grey one (Let's Do It In 3-D). I guess the "safer" pinks and tans and golds are just not as interesting to me as the others. I'm glad that it's okay to wear these "wacky" colours. I don't think I'd make it in the 1940s when you could only wear nudes or pinks. Apparently only trampy women wore red. It's true! My grandma told me that! I wonder what nasty names a gal waring blue would be called?

Mmmmm. What a nice warm pink. I think I prefer warm tone pinks to cool ones. But then again, I'll likely change my mind on that. This is 3 coats. Kaleidoscopes dry super quick so it's no biggie. Gosh, I'm at a lost for words. This is probably my favourite pink of the collection.

China Glaze How About A Tumble

China Glaze How About A Tumble 2
China Glaze How About A Tumble
This is a colour that straddles colour families. Is she a pink or is she a purple? I venture to say a purpley-pink. Maybe that's just because I prefer purples? This is the only Kaleidoscope that has struck me as different formulation-wise. It was unusual sheer. I needed 3 coats and probably could have used a 4. You can even see in the bottle picture when it's turned on its side you can see it's not as opaque as the other colours. Yup. Pretty polish.

Got this baby in a swap. Once again, swapping is pretty darn cool when ya miss the good ones! Fashion Addict is a pale purple holo as you can see. It is glorious in the sun and then pretty flat and dead outside of the sun. Sad. I guess it's because it is so pale. It looks pretty grey in the shade too because of the holographic pigment. It's really not my favourite. As I've mentioned in the past. A stand-out holographic polish needs to have crazy rainbows in the sun and a solid colour outside of the sun. Fashion Addict really only meets one of those criteria. So it's okay, not fantastic, but I mean really, it's got crazy rainbows so it's still pretty awesome! :D

Happy Earth Day AND Good Friday everyone!

OPI Merry Midnight
Missed this one on the first go around but I was lucky enough to snap it up in a swap. Hooray for swapping! This is a very unique polish. Its a dark purple jelly with red flakies, blue glitter and very fine silver glitter. It's very complex and I totally love that. I wish there were more polishes like this. I really like complicated and strange polishes. I want only those. I feel like I may boycot creams from now on. Well... myabe not. I think I might pick up a few here and there, but strictly for layering purposes. I have my eye on a couple OPIs from the fall collection for that reason. At any rate. Isn't she a beaut!?

I have quite a few purple holos. I should do a comparison. Do people like comparisons? Anyway, this is one of my favourite holos. I think the key to a top notch holo is: a) Good holo particles and b) Great colour even without the holo. This one has both. It's a pretty colour even if it wasn't a holo and of course you can totally seen the beautiful rainbow. This is a great holographic polish!

China Glaze L8R G8R
Can you believe I almost forgot about these holos? Well, not really but I got so distracted by the Kaleidoscope holos I haven't had time to try these babies out! They are super fine holo and I have not seen any other nail polish that have the smooth and fine holo particles found in the OMGs. I like them but I think my heart belongs to the sparkles in Kaleidoscope. I've heard that these are wonderful for Konading. L8R G8R was a little more sheer than DV8. I needed 3 coats. But maybe that just me? Love! Other than that nasty pink Catherine Arley haven't met a holo I didn't like! :D

I can see why people really like this polish from the OMG collection. The colour is perfection. The application divine! This is 2 coats and no balding! Hooraaayy! It's really a lot more holographic then this pictures show. Pretty great! I'm using my usual top coat which is Sally Hansen Insta Dri and I've not had any problems with holos getting dull. I'm not sure where other people run into problems with that. If you can get your paws on these you should. They're pretty epic!

So I think yellow is the new "it" colour for summer. I don't have a lot of yellows so when I found this bad boy on sale for $3 I new it was meant to be. I really like the glass fleck shimmer in this polish. It makes it very unique. This is 4 (!) coats and you can still see the nail line. Bummer. But I guess that is to be expected from a yellow right? The colour reminds me of egg yolks. Which might be a bad thing?

Brucci Black Emerald and OPI Fireflies

Brucci Black Emerald

Got this lovely gem in a terrific swap. It's a dark forest green that shifts to amber. It's really beautiful but I guess I'm not in the mood for dark polishes at the moment so I toped it with OPI Fireflies.

Boy oh boy did that ever make the colour pop! You can really see the amber with Fireflies over top. This is a very nice combo!

I've been on a duochrome kick, which isn't surprising. Besides holo they are my favourite. I got most of these polishes in swaps. Yah I love to swap!

Revlon Tempted, Chelsea Kaleidoscope and UNICORN PEE

Revlon Tempted
Revlon Tempted 2
Revlon Tempted
Got this in a swap. I thought it was pretty based on swatches I saw online. Turns out that it's REALLY pretty in person. It's a deep red-wine color with glass flecks and a little purple flash in the flecks. It is definitely in the same colour family as the famed Clarins 230.
I know this because.....

I'm the proud owner of Clarins 230, famed Unicorn Pee. Behold!

Ooo ahhh look at that rainbow! It's very pretty in person too. I really love that shimmer. It's like lit from within gorgeous-ness.

So I thought I'd try it with Tempted because they look very similar if you're just looking at the colour.

Clarins 230
Clarins 230 2
Revlon Tempted with Clarins 230
Because I put it over a red it was really red. You could see a lot of the copper coming out but the green was very difficult to see. I was rather hasty with my manicure and a lot of my nails got smudged. (It's hard to do your nails when your babies are napping and then they wake up and want to play before your mani is dry!) So I started over and reapplied it with a different polish as a base, hoping I could bring out the green flash a little more. Cue Chelsea Kaleidoscope!

Chelsea Kaleidoscope
Chelsea Kaleidoscope 2

This is a polish I got from a blog sale a-la-Kris It's a very interesting Multichrome that flashed purple, blue, pink, orange, smidge of green. Um kinda all the colours you can think of but mostly blue, purple and pink. It's terrific on its own. A little frosty with a some brush strokes but nothing I couldn't deal with. So I thought this might bring out our shy little green friend. I was right.

Yah. It's pretty good. I'm glad I have Clarins 230. It's pretty, but I don't think it's worth all the crazy people go on and on about. I guess I'm more into holos myself. :D If you are thinking of getting Clarins 230 I think you should. It's is pretty great, but don't sell your kidney for it. It's not worth a kidney! ;)
